Long serving goalkeeper Marty Fraser has taken the difficult decision to leave Troon F.C. after 6 hugely successful years at the club.
Having played an integral part in the club's rise from the Ayrshire District League to the Super League Premier Division, Marty has found himself mainly as back-up in the last couple of seasons & with Ally McInnes establishing himself in the number 1 jersey this season, Marty has unfortunately decided to move on.
Marty began his career at Troon Thistle boys club, before signing for Kilwinning Rangers in 2005. His Junior career took him to Dalry Thistle and Lugar Boswell Thistle, before he joined his hometown club Troon in November 2011. He enjoyed a great season as the club were promoted to the Super League in 2013, and was a double winner the following season as the club won the Super First title & the Ayrshire Cup, as well as a West of Scotland Cup Final appearance. Three seasons followed in the Super League Premier Division, before we returned to the First Division in the summer.
Manager Jimmy Kirkwood, who signed him for the club back in 2011, said: "Great player, great lad. It's a big loss personally, and for the club. Marty has been a massive part of everything we've achieved in the last 7 years and that will never go unnoticed! All the best to Marty in the future."
Chairman Jim Kirkwood was also sorry to see Marty leave. "It is with regret that we announce Marty has decided to hang up his gloves. Marty has been an integral part of the team and club for a long time and we will miss the big man around the club. He knows he is welcome anytime and the door is open if he has a change of heart."
Marty has been such a popular figure around the club over the last number of years, he will be very sadly missed indeed. But I'm sure he will not be a stranger, and we look forward to welcoming him (and Jack!) back to Portland Park as supporters!
