Long serving midfielder Scott Chatham was the undeniable winner on the night, walking away with three trophies as Troon Football Club celebrated our annual "Player of the Year Awards Night" at the Portland Park clubhouse on Saturday 27th May 2017.
It has been a very frustrating season indeed at the club, for the first time in an amazing run of seven seasons of continual improvement, but it was good to see the players turn out alongside committee members and some supporters to at the very least toast departing Manager Gordon Burns & thank the players for their efforts throughout this season.
The usual awards were voted for in the last few weeks & their winners on the night were as follows:
2017 YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROSS McCREA
The award was presented by Troon F.C. General Manager Jimmy Kirkwood, and this years winner was midfielder Ross McCrea.
As Jimmy said in his speech, one of the bright spots in this season has been the performances of some outstanding young talents in our squad including Mark Curragh, Zack Simpson, Evan Maley, Ryan Nisbet & Morgan Brown. But the sheer level of consistency shown by Ross throughout the entire season saw him a very worthy winner of the Young Player of the Year.
2017 TOP GOALSCORER - RYAN NISBET
The award was presented by Troon F.C. Commercial Manager Richard Henderson, and this years winner was forward Ryan Nisbet.
As Richard said in his speech, it has been a frustrating season in front of goal for the side, but this trophy was far more hotly contested than could have been predicted as Adam Forsyth, Scott Chatham, Mark Curragh & Dale Moore all finished within a few goals of the winner. But Ryan Nisbet lifted the Golden Boot despite having featured often from the wing this season, and was a very worthy winner.
2017 SUPPORTERS PLAYER OF THE YEAR - SCOTT CHATHAM
The award was presented by former Troon F.C. Chairman Ian O'Connor, and this years winner was midfielder Scott Chatham.
Connie memorably gave the rousing speech of the night, decrying all that goes in to Troon Football Club and all that we are about, and there is no doubt that Scott Chatham embodies that as far as the supporters are concerned.
2017 COMMITTEE PLAYER OF THE YEAR - SCOTT CHATHAM
The award was presented by Troon F.C. committee member Billy Inglis, and this years winner was midfielder Scott Chatham.
Facing the unenviable task of following Connie's speech, Billy blamed laryngitis & swiftly presented Chappy with the trophy - a near unanimous award from our committee.
2017 PLAYER'S PLAYER OF THE YEAR - DALE MOORE
The award was presented by Troon F.C. General Manager Jimmy Kirkwood, and this years winner was winger Dale Moore.
Often the trophy players say they treasure more than others, as it is voted for by their peers, Gunner was a convincing winner amongst votes canvassed from the squad & certainly seemed a popular winner on the night. A model of sheer consistency & outstanding work-rate no matter the situation, Gunner is certainly a very worthy winner of an award he also won in 2014-15.
2017 MANAGERS PLAYER OF THE YEAR - SCOTT CHATHAM
The award was presented by Troon F.C. Manager Gordon Burns, and this years winner was midfielder Scott Chatham.
As Burnsie said in his speech, Chappy has been everything a Manager looks for in a player: consistent, energetic, positive & a real leader in tough times. Chappy rounded off a very successful event by lifting his third trophy of the night to a round of applause.
Congratulations to all the award winners on a night of mixed feelings after a disappointing season. Focus was undeniably on next season however, as Troon look to bounce back at the first time of asking.
